Le Mans Week!

Members

Welcome to Alvin Johnston of Roanoke, VA. Alvin has a 2020 911 Carrera 4S.

Heard from Gary Templeton this past Friday. He reports that he is back home and enjoying his favorite chair! He had bypass surgery but should be back with everyone in about 12 weeks. Give him a call or send him a note.

Member Stories

David Chatntoo sent me some pictures coupled with an interesting story. David has this beautiful 356 coupe. He did not share his history of his ownership but apparently along the way met an artist named Volker Nisch. Volker produced an interesting set of pictures of David’s “barn find”.

First, here is David’s 356 Coup.

Here is a collage of Barn Find pictures created by Volker based on David’s Car.

Cars & Coffee – Dales Diner

After a week of humid, and often rainy weather, Saturday dawned clear and dry. It appeared a near perfect event was in the making.

It was a perfect day for our trip to Dale’s Diner, especially with the top down. Several members took advantage of the opportunity to drive in the open air. Although the drive was short by Porsche standards, the good weather made for a relaxing trip.

As usual we spent a little time socializing in the parking lot before going inside to eat. The restaurant was ready for us, with tables set and waiting. With 26 members present, we quickly added a festive atmosphere to the dining area. Our servers were friendly and very efficient given our large number.

There were many Porsche models represented, as well as many model years. The parking lot looked impressive with our Porsches parked there.

All too soon it was time to leave. Everyone left in anticipation of our next Cars ‘n Coffee, or another future event. Visit our website at: Blue Ridge Region – Porsche Car Club of America (brr-pca.org) for dates and times.

Le Mans Results

So, as many of you know, I am quite a fan of the Le Mans Races. Many years ago, they were the proving grounds of the best sports cars in the world. From Jaguar, Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, Corvette and more, each year would be a clash of the best. This year, Toyota won in the HyperCar class with their proven GR010. But the interesting car in this class was the French Alpine A480 which came in third and was a fan favorite (because it is French).

In LMGTE Pro, Ferrari with their 488 GTE Evo edged out Corvette’s C8.R which was on the same lap after 345 laps and followed by two Porsche 911 RSRs just a lap or two behind.

In LMGTE AM (amateur drivers), Ferrari won, closely followed by an Aston Martin Vantage and a few more Ferrari’s before the first Porsche RSR some four laps back.
