Cars and Coffee – July 8

All Blue Ridge Region PCA members are invited and encouraged to attend Cars N Coffee on Saturday July 8, 2023 starting at 9:00am.  Come for great cars and most importantly to socialize with other club members!  This one is a bit different than our usual C&C event and ought to be one you don’t want to miss!

This event is in conjunction with a huge Roanoke C&C where there could be 200 show cars taking place at Lowes in Salem, Va.  Our group will begin to gather at 9:00am and we expect to have a PCA banner to highlight our group. The Roanoke Cars & Coffee event runs from 8:00 -11:00am, which should provide ample time to enjoy the variety of cars and meet some other great car enthusiasts..

Donuts will be available for our members.

A printed list of Salem restaurants will be available where members can group up to enjoy a late breakfast. (None will reserve for a large group.)

Some additional information. Dan Dehart wrote:

“I wanted to pass along some information to those Blue Ridge members signing up for the Back of the Dragon drive.  Those that are in no particular hurry to get back home could take in a James Taylor tribute show at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, (thelincoln.org).  Bill Griese is billed as the #1 James Taylor tribute artist and is doing his “Sweet Baby James” show at 3:30 and 7:30 at the Lincoln on the 24th, (tickets are available for both shows from $30 – $36).

The murals and the decor of the theatre are unique and an added treat in going to a show.  Should you wish to spend the night The General Francis Marion Hotel is next door to the theatre, (rooms were available starting at $126).”

Cars ‘n Coffee at Acorn Hill Bistro

By Dave Hogan

The weather Finally returned to June normal with sunny skies and warm temperatures. Everyone’s drive to Acorn Hill Bistro in Lynchburg, VA was a welcome change from past events.

As we were entering the bistro, the wail of a siren caught our attention. Soon a Lynchburg Fire Department engine passed by on an unknown call.

After being seated there was the meeting of friends, and the enjoyment of making new friends. As usual we were a noisy group with many conversations in progress. An important part of these events is the people with whom we enjoy spending time.

Acorn Hill Bistro is a favorite of Blue Ridge Region with good food and friendly people. There were many different dishes chosen by our members. We know everyone enjoyed the food as the room became very quiet after we were served.

Christa waved goodbye as Gene and she leave for home. Those eight LED daytime running lights have become somewhat of a Porsche trademark.

All too soon it was time to go home. Another enjoyable and successful event had ended. We look forward to the next event!

And the Winner is ………Ferrari

Ferrari executive chairman John Elkann said the AF Corse factory team’s historic 24 Hours of Le Mans win produced an “unforgettable day” for the Italian manufacturer.

Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi staved off a challenge from the No. 8 Toyota GR010 Hybrid of Sebastien Buemi, Ryo Hirakawa and Brendon Hartley to snap the Japanese marque’s five-year winning streak.

It marked the first outright Le Mans victory for Ferrari since 1965 and came half a century after its last factory program in the top category.’

Kuratle: Porsches Would Have Been in the Mix Without Issues

Porsche Penske Motorsport endures challenging 24 Hours of Le Mans debut with Porsche 963s…

Porsche Penske Motorsport would have been in the mix at the 24 Hours of Le Mans had all three of the LMDh cars not hit trouble in the race according to Porsche LMDh factory director Urs Kuratle.

The factory Hypercar squad encountered multiple issues in the French endurance classic, with the No. 5 Porsche 963 ending up as the highest-placed car in 16th overall after a post-race penalty.

Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and Mirage, the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8, will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new breed of Transformer – the Maximals – to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons.  Directed by Steven Caple Jr., the film stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback.

Among the film’s sprawling cast of characters, one in particular is sure to catch the eye of Porsche fans everywhere: Mirage, voiced by Pete Davidson.
