BRR-PCA Charity and New Member Event
BRR_PCA Members Picnic & New Members Social – June 25, 2022
Wow! This past Saturday a group of 43 BRR members enjoyed a fun drive, an awesome picnic, a tour of a fabulous personal garage, celebrated a group of recent new members and raised funds for a local charity. Those of you who couldn’t make it sure missed a great event!
The day began with 31 cars converging in the parking lot of the O’Reilly Auto Parts store in Moneta Virginia. With the drivers meeting completed, waivers confirmed, and headlights on the group departed for a 23 mile tour on some fun roads ending at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va.
Upon arrive at the memorial; the cars were parked as a group and our members once again socialized and browsed the cars. We were joined by Ken and Linda Parker, Curators of the Bedford Boys Tribute Center for a presentation of a donation from our members. Through the generosity of our members and guests, $2,100 was raised, including an additional donation after the event, for this non-profit organization.
Our group once again fired up our cars, turned on headlights and departed on a 38 mile tour and a series of interesting roads to arrive at our final destination at Smith Mountain Lake. Through the kindness of a neighbor our cars were parked in a grass lot surrounded by a wooden fence – kind of our own mini-Porsche Corral! A short walk and we all toured a garage, opened by the graciousness of a member’s neighbor. There we took in the sites of a number of interesting cars and memorabilia, while chatting with the owner and each other.
A short walk took us to the house of BRR-PCA members, Jeff and Jennifer Coston, our hosts for the picnic. Members enjoyed the great outdoor weather, views of Smith Mountain Lake, and a lunch of BBQ, salads, chips, fruit and desserts. Members enjoyed not just the found, but each other with a lot of conversations and mingling among our members. The new members were welcomed to our Region and each took a moment to stand to introduce themselves.
Many thanks to Jeff and Jennifer for opening their house to the club and to their neighbors for the parking and the garage tours.
Of course, an event like this just doesn’t happen on its own. It takes work and the members who stepped-up to make this event outstanding were:
Many thanks to Jeff and Jennifer Coston, Beth Heinzelman, Gene Reed, and Reggie Pugh; who had the idea for this picnic stepped-up to plan all the details and made this an incredible event!
